about Daphne

Daphne started her career at the Radboud University in Nijmegen in 2015. She joined Florent in 2018. She is a senior associate in the Restructuring & Insolvency practice. 

Expertise

Daphne specializes in private international law (PIL) involving insolvency law, the law of obligations and business law. Daphne advises and litigates on a variety of matters regarding (in particular) the international jurisdiction of courts, the applicable law and the recognition and enforcement of foreign decisions or arbitral awards, including (prejudgment) attachments. 

She is regularly appointed by the court as trustee in bankruptcies and provides counsel to clients, creditors, and prospective buyers in (impending) bankruptcy situations. 

What else
Daphne is a part-time lecturer of private international law (PIL) at the Radboud University in Nijmegen. She is an editorial member of the magazine ‘Financiering, Zekerheden en Insolventiepraktijk’ (FIP) and is a co-author at the ‘Groene Serie’, commenting on the Insolvency regulation (recast) and the provisions on international law in the Dutch Bankruptcy Code. She publishes and is (JOR-) commentator in the field of private international law with a focus on international insolvency law. Daphne obtained her post-graduate degree (Grotius) in insolvency law.

Daphne is a member of the ‘Vereniging Jonge Insolventierecht Advocaten’ (JIRA) and the ‘Nederlandse Vereniging voor Rechtsvergelijkend en Internationaal Insolventierecht’ / Dutch Association for Comparative and International Insolvency Law (NVRII). 

She is also one of the authors of the Dutch chapter of the Chambers Global Practice Guide on Litigation 2023 and the IBA litigation guide on Cross-border enforcement of judgments against states 2024

Recognition

Acting as court-appointed bankruptcy trustee of Exem Energy B.V., a company connected to the daughter of the former President of Angola, which allegedly participated in a corruption scheme to the benefit its UBO.

Representing a French litigation funder to enforce an arbitral award against a foreign State.
